Proton-M launch with Amazonas-5
September 11, 2017 at 22:23 MT (Moscow Time) the Proton M launch vehicle, utilizing a 5-burn Breeze M mission design, successfully lifted off from Pad 39 at the Baikonur Space Center with the AMAZONAS 5 satellite on board. The first three stages of the Proton used a standard ascent profile to place the orbital unit (Breeze M upper stage and the Amazonas 5 satellite) into a sub-orbital trajectory.

From this point in the mission, the Breeze M performs planned mission maneuvers to advance the orbital unit first to a nearly circular parking orbit, then to an intermediate orbit, followed by a transfer orbit, and finally to a geosynchronous transfer orbit. Separation of the Amazonas 5 satellite is scheduled to occur approximately 9 hours, 12 minutes after lift-off.
AMAZONAS 5 communications satellite
Amazonas 5, built for HISPASAT, has a high throughput Ka-band spot beam payload with 34 Ka-band spot beams which will be used for broadband service in South America, Central America and Mexico. It also has a Ku-band beam with 24 transponders for fixed satellite services, which will be used for television, corporate networks and other telecommunications applications in South America and Central America. The satellite will be located at 61°W and is based on the highly reliable SSL 1300 platform, which provides highpower and the flexibility to support a broad range of applications and technology advances.
