Latest issue of global space magazine is out now
When it comes to space exploration, global space magazine ROOM Space Journal of Asgardia is one of the world’s most respected publications.
It’s just out Spring issue reflects the exciting and dynamic nature of everything that is happening in space with 20 articles from leading global experts.
As well as a quarterly print and digital magazine, ROOM also has a dynamic website [https://room.eu.com/] which also has all the latest space and business news.
One of ROOM’s goals is to reflect the full breadth and dynamic nature of space exploration, business and technology, and the Spring 2021 issue is definitely no exception
It has articles from leading global experts all seeking to challenge, inform and feed the imagination.
In ‘Dream big and reach the stars’ space populariser Abigail Harrison (also known as ‘Astronaut Abby’) writes about the importance of ‘selling space’ and the dream of Mars to upcoming generations.
According to Stephen Ashworth, of Oxford University’s Voltaire Foundation, living on Mars may prove much more challenging than it seems and his article ‘On Mars as it is on Earth - preparing for settlement’ proposes that completely self sufficient settlements on Earth need to be developed first.
The sustainablity of future long-term Mars missions is also the theme of ‘In-situ propellant design for Mars ascent vehicles’ by young Turkish engineers Ozan Kara and Miray Karpat, who are working to develop rocket motors and propulsion systems that could be powered by resources available on Mars.
Bringing space closer to home are articles examining different aspects of Earth observation (EO) technology. In ‘Data may be the new oil… but its real value is in actionable information’, Geoff Smith suggests that the voluminous amounts of data now being gathered need to be channelled correctly and, increasingly, in real-time.
Aravind Ravichandran agrees that data from space can enable a revolution of applications to help us build a sustainable future but in ‘iPhone moment for the EO industry’ he asks the obvious question, how do we capitalise on it?
Challenging topics, such as ‘Space wars - how they start and how to end them’ by
strategist Paul Szymanski; and Amanda Miller’s ‘Building SLS - a contractual odyssey’ taking a critical overview of NASA’s much-vaunted Space Launch System, also feature.
ROOM’s regular ‘Industry Focus’ section includes an exclusive interview with ESA’s new Director General, Josef Aschbacher, who expands on his challenge to make space part of the everyday European agenda; Seraphim Capital’s Josephine Millward discusses ‘Space industry trends in the pandemic’; and Shivaprakash Muruganandham, a senior analyst from India, provides expert commentary on new revenue opportunities for the satellite industry in ‘Satellites in the cloud: data from orbit’.
Today, space can be very personal too and this is particularly so for Jacob Mulder, a Dutch IT specialist, who explains in ‘Visions of beating gravity’ about his life-changing vision to rise above a physical disability by one day residing in space himself.
