Arktika-M satellite

The space system of hydrometeorological and climate monitoring "Arktika" is designed to monitor climate and environment in the Arctic region. The minimum required composition of the complex is two satellites. As part of the system, they will provide round-the-clock all-weather monitoring of the Earth's surface and the seas of the Arctic Ocean.

The Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle was created at the Progress Rocket and Space Center (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) and is a modification of Soyuz-2. In comparison with variant "1a" it has an engine with increased energy characteristics in the third stage. The Soyuz-2.1b has higher launch accuracy, stability and controllability than the previous version, and an increased payload mass.
