The Russian automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-earth space (ASPOS OKP) records up to 10 messages daily about dangerous encounters of Russian satellites with space objects. This was stated in an interview with TASS by the head of the information and analytical center of TsNIIMash (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) Igor Bakaras.

“From three to 10 messages about the occurrence of dangerous encounters between protected satellites of the Russian constellation and potentially dangerous space objects are received every day from the ATPOS OKP,” Bakaras said.

According to the specialist, despite such a number of warnings, the orbits of satellites have to be changed quite rarely. "But in the case of a high probability of collision of active spacecraft with objects of space debris, their orbit can be adjusted," he said, adding that not all spacecraft have this capability due to design features and the availability of fuel for maneuvering and continuing work.

The automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-earth space has been created and has been operating since 2016. Optoelectronic complexes that are included in it automatically detect spacecraft and space debris and determine their coordinates.
