Cosmonaut Anatoly Filipchenko
On Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the age of 95, a participant in the world's first group flight of three spacecraft, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, USSR pilot-cosmonaut Anatoly Filipchenko died.
He was born on February 26, 1928 in the village of Davydovka, Voronezh Region.
In 1950 he graduated from the Chuguev Higher Aviation Pilot School with the qualification of "military pilot". In 1957-1961 he studied at the correspondence department of the Red Banner Air Force Academy.
In 1963 he was enrolled as a student-cosmonaut in the cosmonaut corps of the Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC) of the Air Force, in 1965 he was appointed astronaut.
In October 1969, as commander of the Soyuz-7 spacecraft, he made the first space flight lasting five days together with Vladislav Volkov and Viktor Gorbatko. For the first time in the world, a group flight of three spacecraft was carried out together with Soyuz-6 and Soyuz-8.
In December 1974, as the commander of the Soyuz-16 spacecraft, he made a second space flight lasting six days together with Nikolai Rukavishnikov in order to test a new modification of the Soyuz spacecraft for the ASTP program.
In 1982-1988 he served as the head of the 1st department of the CPC. In 1988 he was retired from active military service.
Military pilot 1st class, test pilot 3rd class, cosmonaut 2nd class, candidate of military sciences and honorary citizen of the cities of Kaluga, Chita, Lipetsk, Karaganda, Arkalyk, Sumy and Houston.
He was awarded two Gold Star medals of the Hero of the Soviet Union, two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the SRR V degree, the Order of the State Banner of the Hungarian People’s Republic, the medals “25 Years of People’s Power” and “For Strengthening the Brotherhood in Arms” of the People’s Republic of Belarus, the medal “Brotherhood in Arms" I degree Czechoslovakia, the medal "Brotherhood in Arms" III degree GDR, the medal "1300 Years of Bulgaria", the gold medal named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the sign of the Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League "Military Valor" and the medal "For Merit in Space Exploration".
Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR.
