Long March-2D carrying ASO-S liftoff

A Long March-2D launch vehicle launched the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, Gansu Province, China, on 8 October 2022, at 23:43 UTC (9 October, at 07:43 local time).

According to official sources, ASO-S has entered its planned orbit successfully. The Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (先进天基太阳天文台, ASO-S) will “conduct observations on the solar magnetic field, solar flares and coronal mass ejections, to support the forecasting of catastrophic space weather”.
