The Proton-M launch vehicle has been used since 2001 to launch payloads into specified orbits and departure trajectories as part of federal and commercial programs. Over the two decades of operation, it has gone through four phases of deep modernization, which made it possible to significantly improve its energy-mass and environmental characteristics. Today's launch was the 427th launch of the Proton family of rockets since 1965.
